When you evaluate a wholesale supplier, ask directly: "What salt spray duration does your plating pass, and can you provide test reports?" A factory that cannot answer this is guessing.

How Wear Affects Tarnish and Discoloration

Even well-plated titanium steel can discolor under specific conditions. Buyers should understand and communicate these to end customers:

  • Perfume, sunscreen, and hairspray: Alcohol and chemical solvents degrade plating over time. Advise customers to apply fragrance before putting on jewelry.
  • Chlorine and saltwater: Pools and oceans accelerate plating wear. Rinse and dry after contact.
  • Friction: Rings and bracelets rub against skin and surfaces constantly. Rings are the first pieces to show plating wear — expect a shorter lifespan than earrings or pendants.
